Sesame Seared Ahi Tuna

Seared ahi, or ahi of any kind is my family’s absolute favorite. Up until now, we’ve only had it at restaurants. I have created a solution to that with this one of a kind seared ahi recipe. Ahi can be expensive and hard to find fresh, but unless we’ve gone fishing, I usually buy mine from Costco.

Ingredients:

  • As much ahi steaks as you desire to make (double the recipe if this isn’t enough to cover all sides of your steaks)

  • 3 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds

  • 2 tablespoons minced onion

  • 1 teaspoon garlic granules

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

  • Dash of salt and pepper

Directions:

Mix all the herbs and spices together with a fork in a small bowl. Take the steaks and pat on to top and bottom, to coat like a curst.

Pour extra virgin olive oil (coconut oil and sesame oil work as well) on to a pan in a very thin layer. Turn your stove on to medium high and allow the oil to warm. Once the oil is making a popping noise place your tuna steak on the pan.

We like ours rare so allow to cook 2 and a half minutes on each side before you flip. If you like it a little more cooked allow to cook for 3- 3.5 minutes on each side. Once each side is cooked I like to take tongs and sear the edges so they brown slightly.

Remove from heat and serve right away.

Enjoy! I serve mine with coconut aminos and ginger.
